In humid air, it easily absorbs carbon dioxide in the air and decomposes to form sodium carbonate and tin hydroxide, which makes it difficult to dissolve in water. The solubility of potassium stannate in water is 110.5g/100g water at 15°C, and its solubility increases with the increase in temperature. However, its solubility in water decreases with the increase of the corresponding free alkali. Potassium stannate loses three crystal waters when heated to 140°C and becomes anhydrous. The hydrolysis product of potassium stannate in aqueous solution is hydrated tin oxide. In order to increase the chemical stability of potassium stannate, commercial potassium stannate usually contains an appropriate amount of free alkali-caustic potash, so the tin content of commercial potassium stannate compounds is less than the theoretical value of 39.7% of the pure compound.
